Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and spider veins. During the procedure, a sclerosing agent is injected into the vein causing damage to the inner lining. This causes the vein to close off and eventually disappear.
During your Sclerotherapy treatment, a very fine needle with the sclerosing agent is injected directly into the vein. You may feel slight pinch from the needle or a slight burning sensation, this is normal. The procedure usually takes up to 30-45 minutes depending on the number of veins being treated. There is no downtime, so you can return to your usual activities right away, but you will need to wear compression stockings immediately after treatment.
The majority of the treated veins will show a significant improvement after several weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.
